This process is called "Coue's Law" or the "law of reversed effort". For example you may start your day determined not to eat chocolate, then after a few hours you experience cravings. Eventually you give in to them, eat the chocolate and this makes you feel bad. Then you start again the next day with renewed effort but get exactly the same results until you feel you have no willpower at all. Sound familiar?
